Hey everyone!
I’m so glad you all decided to join this challenge! I need some accountability partners & I think we’ll all feel stronger together as we give a go at a daily writing practice this month. We'll start tomorrow!
FIRST THING: If you’re like me and you despise unnecessary emails clogging your inbox, you might want to unsubscribe from notifications for this group.
To unsubscribe from group email notifications:
Click the three vertical dots on the top right hand corner
Click “Notification Settings” & turn off notifications for email
The only thing I ask is for you to share a quick post in this group after you’ve written for the day.
Anything from a thumbs up, a quick “done,” or a brief summary of your writing experience will do. No need to make it more difficult than it needs to be. But sharing that you did-the-thing and seeing that others did too is what makes the accountability piece work on this online platform.
If you miss a day or several, no worries. Just keep on keepin’ on.
It might be helpful to bookmark this page or save the link somewhere so that you can easily access it each day.
A FEW WRITING TIPS:
Know where you wanna write (a journal, a laptop, a piece of notebook paper) and keep it where it’s easy to access each day.
When you write, reduce distractions (i.e. phones!) and set a timer for 20 minutes. Once it goes off, you’re done! Unless of course you want to keep going.
If 20 minutes feels challenging, pick an amount of time that feels achievable for you. BJ Fogg’s habit research says that we develop habits more easily when we make the goal an easy one to achieve. So even if you only have 10 minutes to write, it counts.
Write about anything you want: a new idea, what happened recently, a question you’re wrestling with, a topic, something you’ve learned about yourself recently, a new plot for a book, an old memory, or whatever else pops into your mind. Release the pressure. Often in writing, you will find your way to the good stuff once you just start writing about anything.
Have fun with it! I appreciate you joining this group. I already feel how helpful it is to jumpstart my own writing routine by having you all here.
PS — feel free to introduce yourself & why you joined this group, but no pressure or expectation.
